Okay, so maybe there’s not 103 prior uses for theater chairs but there are definately a lot of good reasons. A recent stint of back pain caused by a pinched nerve helped me identify another one:
They’re comfy.
We’ve had a lot of people comment about how comfortable our theater seats are. They’re nothing special. In fact, they’re a fairly cheap brand that we ordered with custom fabric covering to match the theme of our theater. It’s the same brand most custom installers sell. Our clients typically go with the better quality furniture like Continental Seating or Palliser but the Berkline/Motionworks chairs get the job done when something in the budget needs to get squeezed.
Like anything cheap, they’re not taking the punishment of our 3 boys and their friends very well. Better quality furniture is built better and simply lasts longer. We’ve had these chairs for over 5 years now and the best thing I can say is that they are still really comfortable.
My back pain was intolerable and no seating, lying, or standing position was helping. The pain kept me from concentrating so I figured I try to take a load off and catch up on some movies I really wanted to watch (The Replacements and Superman Returns).
What a relief! The chair supported my entire body evenly and positioned my spine just right. Big cupholders held my hydration (details omitted–ok, it was just cranberry juice & water). The kick-up ottoman didn’t extend my feet too high which also kept the tension off my back.
Both movies were entirely enjoyable. Reeves and Hackman are a great pair and Kevin Spacey is a perfectly evil Lex Luthor.
Now if only I could support my wireless keyboard comfortably–I’d never leave the theater room!
